Youth against violence – the project 'Peace is the better way'

Peace is by no means a given in today's world. Every day the media reports on numerous wars as well as civic and political conflicts all over the world. All this information rains down unfiltered on adolescents. This is where the "Peace is the better way" project of the Evangelical Youth Bad Honnef begins. Its goal is to support adolescents digest information about conflicts and create connections, in order to become active themselves. Where do violent conflicts originate? How can you achieve peace and what does any of it have to do with us over here? Various meetings with politicians, workshops, activities, and seminars try to answer these and similar questions.

OVB and the Aalkönig fest

This project is made possible by the financial support of the OVB Charity "Menschen in Not e.V" of the OVB Vermögensberatung AG. For the last three years it has donated 7500 euros to the cause. The money went, for instance, to a central element of the project, an eponymous multimedia exposition. Young people learned here what different non-violent methods there are to prevent or end wars and armed conflicts.

The fact that the company supports exactly this idea is not an accident: the parent company OVB Holding AG has been a sponsor and partner of the so-called Bad Honnefer Aalkönig fest for many years. Its proceeds help finance a number of projects, including "Peace is the better way". The name "Aalkönig fest" comes from the Bad Honnefer symbol, the Aalschokker Aranka. A one-off festival was supposed to make the renovation of the very dilapidated fishing sailing ship possible – that was back in 2003. Since then, the revenue generated by the Aalkönig e.V. of more than 350,000 euros has flowed into various social projects.
